'Potty parity' aims to remedy long lines
The Women's Restroom Equity Bill, unanimously approved by the New York City Council last May, requires public facilities to uphold a 2-to-1 ratio of women's to men's toilets. The measure, which replaced a 1984 law requiring a 1-to-1 ratio, applies to all new public structures as well as renovations costing more than 50 percent of the value of the building. Thanks to the World Toilet Organization in Singapore, which acts as "a global voice on the issue of toilets," the issue is likely to gain even more attention as an agenda item in Moscow at the World Toilet Summit in September.

    NaNoWriMo Update

    Ken: 4,518 words Giuia: 11,000 words or so. OK, it's not a competition, but I always knew she talked more than me. Now I have proof. For those of you who are doing the math, I'm about a day behind where I'm supposed to be (assuming I write my daily assignment later today). I blame work. It gets in the way of all sorts of things I want to do with my time. Of course, it also keeps me fed and clothed, but I have to say it seems an awful lot more trouble than it's worth most of the time. But I have a 10 hour plane ride coming up this weekend, and intend to make up some lost ground. The good news is, when I do actually sit down and write, I'm not having any issue with generating content. Hell, I wrote 250 words on the socio-importance of Deviled Eggs in the American South. Remember: quantity over quality is our mantra around here.

    Toys 'R Now Them

    Toys 'R Us sells the biz.
    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Toys R Us Inc on Thursday said it agreed to sell the entire company, including its namesake toy chain and Babies R Us business, to an investment group of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., Bain Capital and Vornado Realty Trust for $26.75 per share, or $6.6 billion, plus debt.
    Which is, like, great for the now rich Toys, who, once recovered from their celebratory Toy bingers, I assume will go spend their hard earned gains on Toy mansions and Toy trophy wives. But not so great for my critter. I don't think she's going to want any of the new product lines of 'Kohlberg Kravis Roberts Bain Capital Vornado 'R Us'.
